| "L'Orfeo" by
Monteverdi: the first opera performance north of the Alps was
given at the Rock Theatre at Hellbrunn in 1616. |
 |
| According to legend it was constructed in only one month - thus the name: the Month Palace. |

Over an arched portal reads: "The Divine unifies even opposites."
Markus Sittikus conceived his pleasure garden, which he had laid
out between
1613 and 1616, according to this principle. Light and dark, fire
and water, lively and quiet - contrasts everywhere.
In 400 years the grounds underwent the changing fates of history: for example
in the 18th century when the Strawberry Hill was removed. Or under the
Royal Archbishop Andreas Jakob von Dietrichstein, who had the trick fountains
built into the Mechanical Theatre. The basic ideas of the Renaissance,
however, always remained preserved.
